CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: VILLAGE-BASED ADVISORS (VBAs) – FIFTEEN (15) POSITIONS, KENYA

1. Background:

Kilimo Trust is co-implementing a programme titled “Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries through Inclusive Market Access” (WYEEFIMA). Led by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat and TradeMark Africa and funded by the Mastercard Foundation. The programme aims to economically empower women and youth (ages 18–35) by improving their participation in cross-border fisheries trade.

To support implementation in Kenya, Kilimo Trust is recruiting Village-Based Advisors (VBAs) to work within local communities. Fifteen (15) qualified individuals are invited to apply to the KT-WYEEFIMA Programme. Further details are provided below.

2. Roles of the VBA under the WYEEFIMA programme:

    a) Successfully complete mandatory training prior to deployment.

    b) Support the implementation of programme activities at the community level.

    c) Organize and actively participate in participant training, workshops, and stakeholder                                     engagements.

    d) Mobilize communities, onboard, and register programme participants and partners.

    e) Submit timely and accurate participant data and narrative reports to Resident Associates.

    f) Maintain regular communication with Resident Associates and gather field data, success stories,                and community feedback.

    g) Conduct scheduled monitoring of community-based participant and partner activities, and report             deviations from programme objectives.

3. Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate for the Village-Based Advisor (VBA) role should possess the following:

    a) Diploma or degree in Fisheries, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Economics,                             Entrepreneurship, or a related field.

    b) A minimum of one (1) year of experience in community development or field-based project                         implementation.

     c) Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

     d) Proficiency in local languages spoken in the deployment area is an added advantage.

4. Duty Station

The position will be based in one of the following locations, subject to programmatic needs and operational priorities:

    a) One (1) Turkana – (1 Lake Zone)

    b) Nine (9) Western region – (1 Busia – Port Victoria; 1 Kisumu – Seme – Ogal Beach; 3 Siaya – Lwanda             Kotieno, Usenge & Lake Kanyaboli; 1 Homa bay – Mbita; and 3 Migori – Migori Town, Isebania & Sori)

    c) Five (5) Coastal region – (2 Kilifi – Magharini & Mtwapa; 1 Kwale – Msambweni; and 2 Taita-Taveta            – Voi & Lake Chala)

5. Duration and Timeline:

The assignment is expected to be completed within a period of three months but is renewable.

6. Reporting and Supervision:

The VBA will report directly to the Resident Associate.
