Purpose: To provide agronomic services and value chain development support to farmers and other actors in avocado and chili value chains under the Inclusive Services delivery for Employment Creation (ISEC) project.
This initiative aims to equip farmers with the skills and knowledge necessary to improve their post-harvest management, thereby boosting the quantity and quality of produce, reducing losses, and contributing to an increase in the volume traded.
Scope of Work
Project Planning & Implementation:
Support farmers’ access to innovative solutions/ services in primary production, post-harvest handling, and value addition/processing of avocado and chili value chains.
Support engagement of youth as service providers in avocado and chili value chains and link them to farmers, companies, and other value chain actors.
Work with the project team to undertake analysis of existing service delivery opportunities for youth in avocado and chili value chains.
Project Finance & Administration:
Comply with project financial controls and all laid-out operational procedures
Ensure value for money principle is observed throughout project implementation.
- Project Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting:
In collaboration with the Project Team leader & M& E lead, develop a precise project monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL) plan.
Implement the MEAL plan in liaison with the M&E Team
Manage and ensure accurate data capturing, analysis, and reporting about project activities in accordance with donor requirements.
Information & Communication:
Work closely with the Team Leader to ensure effective and unified communication to the project stakeholders and partners.
Prepare documentation of best practices including writing/editing articles, press releases, lessons learnt, and other project materials for publication.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture with specialization in horticulture, crops production, agribusiness or relevant qualification.
At least three (3) years of practical experience working with youth, smallholders’ farmers, cooperatives, input providers, technology services in agribusiness, or other relevant partners in agriculture value chain
Practical experience in implementation of agricultural development projects
Advanced oral and written communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
Ability to work from a field office outside Kigali.
Previous experience working with farmer groups, cooperatives, or in rural development projects.
Strong knowledge on modern agronomy & postharvest handling practices of bean, maize, and rice value chains
Proficiency in local languages relevant to the training regions is a must.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Ability to work effectively in diverse and rural settings
